Treatment of laryngitis is a guarantee that the disease will not be aggravated and will not go into the chronic stage with complications. Laryngitis is a disease of the larynx, which is accompanied by an inflammatory process of its walls, often occurring against the background of scarlet fever, measles or whooping cough. Depending on how timely the treatment started, and whether there are complications, laryngitis can be chronic or acute.

Provoking factors

Treatment of laryngitis in adults and children depends on the causes of the onset of the disease. Acute laryngitis is provoked by the following factors:

  • the entry of pathogenic bacteria and viruses;
  • irritation of the larynx with food, drinks that are hot and too cold;
  • mechanical irritation of the larynx;
  • hypothermia of the body;
  • long time spent in a dusty room;
  • smoking;
  • strong overuse of the vocal cords.

In adults, laryngitis occurs due to the constant load on the ligaments. This is a professional disease of singers and teachers. Such a bad habit as smoking, against the background of a weakened immune system and the presence of pathogenic microbes in the body, is an ideal environment for the development of laryngitis

The causes of laryngitis occurring in the chronic stage are:

  • persistent relapses of acute laryngitis;
  • complication of sinusitis;
  • lingering rhinitis;
  • diseases of the bronchi, lungs, pharynx of an infectious nature.

Clinical picture

Symptoms of laryngitis are:

  • general feeling unwell;
  • increase of body temperature;
  • a sore throat;
  • burning and dry mouth;
  • cough, dry, painful;
  • severe headaches;
  • temporary loss of voice;
  • a feeling of tickling in the throat;
  • rhinitis, sinusitis;
  • severe swelling of the mucous membrane of the larynx.

Symptoms of laryngitis in children have a more pronounced picture than in adult patients. Treatment of laryngitis in children should begin as soon as the first suspicion arose. In young children, laryngeal swelling becomes so strong that it can completely block the lumen and lead to respiratory failure. This condition is called false croup.

Diagnosis

Self-treatment of laryngitis is excluded. Diagnosis of the disease is carried out by an ENT doctor who examines the patient’s throat, studies his /her anamnesis, complaints and appoints medical tests, including laryngoscopy. If complications are suspected, a blood test is carried out, an examination of the heart and circulatory system is appointed.

Therapy Methods

Treatment of laryngitis requires a strict bed rest for the patient. Consuming food that is too spicy, hot or cold is excluded. During the treatment, you should not be outdoors for a long time at low temperatures, be cold, smoke, drink alcoholic beverages.

Cough, fever, rhinitis are treated symptomatically. To relieve pain in the throat, it is recommended to rinse it with herbal solutions, decoctions based on medicinal herbs. Inhalations and neck compresses also help in the treatment of laryngitis, but they are forbidden to carry out in case of an acute inflammatory process, and therefore only the attending physician can give permission for inhalation after examining the patient.

In case of severe sore throat, in the absence of positive dynamics from symptomatic treatment, antibiotics of the local spectrum of action are prescribed — sprays. To relieve severe swelling from the throat, therapeutic procedures are prescribed – electrophoresis, UHF therapy. With timely treatment and compliance with all of the doctor’s prescriptions, laryngitis disappears after 7-10 days.
